Introduction of the sports team
Sports medicineThe Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at University of Pecs, Hungary has a designated team of specialists doing all different kinds of sports surgeries. Injuries happened during sports activity, as well as any household accident may result in acute or chronic joint instability or functional impairment. The joints most frequently affected are the knee, shoulder and ankle joints, nevertheless hip, elbow, hand or foot joints may also be involved. In addition to soft tissue injuries very often osteo-chondral defects are present that are repaired in large number at our clinic mostly arthroscopically. Many of our colleagues have learned the newest techniques in leading foreign institutes. A few examples of the surgical procedures performed at our department:Ø Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy as well as meniscus repair;Ø Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) repair in acute or chronic instability of the knee using bone tendon (BTB), hamstring or allograft from the bone bank;Ø Repair of any osteochondral defect using microfracture, mosaicplasty or autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI).
